Leon's List - 2024 Week 3

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

No quarterback threw for more than 300 yards in Week 2. And only two QBs (Tua and Stafford) did so in Week 1.

NFL analysts are pointing out defenses play two high safeties more often this season. Teams want to take away the deep ball and make the opposing offense beat them by executing long drives.

To counter this, offenses are running the ball. They are taking advantage of the lighter boxes.

As a result, fantasy points are down for QBs and WRs and up for RBs. It’s something I’m keeping in the back of my mind when I set my flex spot.

Let’s get to the list for Week 3:

Sameje Perine (RB - KC)

Isiah Pacheco is out for at least 6 weeks after fracturing his fibula last Sunday.

It’s not clear who the lead back will be in Pacheco’s absence. There’s Carson Steele, Samaje Perine, and Kareem Hunt is set to visit the Chiefs today.

Out of those three, my bet is on Perine. It’s a bit of the zag as buzz builds around Carson Steele. But Perine is a veteran that excels in the pass game.

Jalen Nailor (WR - MIN)

Jalen Nailor made the most of his opportunity last week when Jordan Addison was out with an injury. He caught 3 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.

He’ll have more opportunities in the coming weeks. Both Addison and Justin Jefferson look a little beat up. TJ Hockenson is still rehabbing his ACL and isn’t coming back until later this season.

Sam Darnold looks great. There might be some Comeback Player of the Year hype. Nailor is a great way to get on the bandwagon!

Antonio Gibson (NE - RB)

Antonio Gibson out rushed Rhamoondre Stevenson 96 to 81 yards last week. He did it in 10 less carries than Stevenson.

I don’t think Gibson will do this every week.

But he’s proven to be a viable handcuff to Stevenson. The Patriots also look better than what I expected going into this season. They are competitive and can move the ball under Brissett.
