Thursday Thoughts - 09/15/2022
In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.
What I Read:
Your Career Is Just One-Eighth of Your Life
Derek Thompson found that current career advice articles were not helpful. It was too specific to be used by everyone. So he offers five pieces of universal career advice in this article.
My favorite piece of advice is his take on ambition. Thompson argues that ambition is an acquired taste like wine. Some people want to conquer the world while others are okay with living a comfortable life in middle management. I definitely fall somewhere in the second group. It’s something I definitely thought about before but it’s nice to have it expressed in writing.
What I Watched:
NFL RedZone
The NFL season kicked off last week and football is back! The NFL is uniquely positioned in that most games are played at the same time on Sundays. NFL RedZone covers all these games by showing the most interesting moments. The best thing is that there are no commercials on RedZone.
I enjoy the constant action of RedZone. There’s no other sports experience like it. My friends and I get together every Sunday to watch it.
What I Wrote:
Leons List
Speaking of the NFL, I started a pop-up newsletter for the football season. It’s centered around fantasy football waiver wire pick ups. The newsletter comes out every Tuesday before waiver claims are due. Check it out if you play fantasy football and enjoy my writing.
What I’m Pondering:
If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.
Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood
