Thursday Thoughts - 05/25/2023
Here are my Thursday Thoughts, a short list of the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

What I Heard:
Kia and Hyundai’s ‘Kia Boyz’ Problem
I had no idea that ‘Kia Boyz’ was a thing before listening to this podcast. It’s a unique trend infiltrating TikTok, where young males are breaking into Hyundai and Kia cars. This phenomenon doesn’t stop at car theft; it also encompasses a dance and sometimes a joy ride.
This led me to wonder if this would have happened in world without social media, like 15 years ago. Without the rapid spread of ideas enabled by platforms such as TikTok, this issue might have remained confined to local episodes of young boys stealing Korean cars.
The Tim Ferriss Show - Bobby Hundreds
I found myself going down a rabbit hole on brand building after reading David Horvath’s writing last week. This led to an episode of The Tim Ferriss Show that hosted Bobby “Hundreds” Kim, the mind behind the globally recognized streetwear label, The Hundreds.
The podcast offers a deep-dive into Hundreds’ journey, as he demystifies the process of catapulting The Hundreds into the global stratosphere. The conversation covers a wide range of subjects including fashion, art, Korean culture, and NFTs.
What I Watched:
97hrs on Luxury Canadian Sleeper Train | Toronto to Vancouver
This video documents a couple’s first-class travel experience on The Canadian, a sleeper train that traverses the length of Canada from Toronto to Vancouver over the course of nearly 5 days.
Will, the video’s star and creator, opts for voiceover commentary as opposed to filming himself talking to the camera, a creative decision that enhances the storytelling aspect of the video. I found the addition of historical images and trivia about the various stations to be particularly enriching. The footage of the Canadian Rockies elevates the viewer experience, creating an intriguing visual narrative.
