Leon's List - 2024 Week 5

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

What if we added kickers to the superflex spot?

On Thursday Night, I watched Brandon Aubrey and Greg Joseph put up 11 and 19 fantasy points, respectively. They put up more points combined (30 pts) than their quarterbacks (28 pts). It was one of those games that maybe I didn’t need to watch.

Through 4 weeks, Aubrey is highest scoring kicker with 60 fantasy points. He is ranked 30th in total fantasy points. He is sandwiched between Brian Robinson and Ja’Marr Chase. To give a little more perspective, he’s 4 points behind Patrick Mahomes and 3 points ahead of Aaron Rodgers.

I know not every kicker is going to be as awesome as Brandon Aubrey. But it’s fun to imagine a team with a kicker in the superflex outscoring the 2nd QB or 3rd WR/RB.

Here’s my list for Week 5:

Dontayvion Wicks (WR - GB)

Dontayvion Wicks had a breakout game with 5 catches for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns. He drew additional targets when Christian Watson left the game with a high ankle injury.

I love Wicks in this spot. Jordan Love is back and held up well against the Vikings defense. Mike LaFluer is an offensive genius. And Watson is likely to be out for an extended amount of time. This all adds up to Wicks eating well in the next few weeks.

Jeremy McNichols (RB - WAS)

Jeremy McNichols ran for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Cardinals last week.

He is the backup to Brian Robinson as Austin Ekeler was held out of the game with a concussion. If Ekeler can’t clear the concussion protocol this week, I expect McNichols to have a similar role.

The Washington Commander offense is on fire. I want to grab any piece of it that I can.

Josh Downs (WR - IND)

Josh Downs tied Michael Pittman for 9 targets on Sunday. He caught 8 of those targets for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Downs benefitted from Joe Flacco stepping in as quarterback after Anthony Richardson was ruled out with a hip injury. Downs’ short routes fit perfectly with Flacco’s accuracy on quick short passes.

Downs is risky as a starter every week because of Richardson’s weakness with short to intermediate throws. But Richardson is prone to injury because of his running, so there’s always a chance Flacco could come in and pepper Downs in the short game.
