Leon's List - 2023 Week 13
Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.
Miles Sanders (RB - CAR)
In each of the last two games, Miles Sanders had 1 more rushing attempt than Chubba Hubbard. This was a true split back situation with Hubbard as the 1A. But things might change as head coach, Frank Reich, was fired earlier this week.
Sanders has the potential to take control of the running back room, so it might be worth a stash.
Royce Freeman (RB - LAR)
Royce Freeman had 77 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 attempts last Sunday. You might think this was a fluke since the Rams blew out the Cardinals. But over the last five games, Freeman has averaged 58.4 rushing yards on 12.6 carries. He is clearly the second banana to Kyren Williams. But he is still worth a stash given Williams injury history.
Samaje Perine (RB - DEN)
The Broncos have won 5 straight games and are in the playoff pictures. Who would have thought this would happen after starting 1-5 with a 70 point blowout loss to the Dolphins?
But the defense is much better and Russel Wilson is showing flashes of his time with the Seahawks. Broncos country, let’s ride?!
All jokes aside, Wilson has been great with scrambling out of the pocket and hitting the bubble screen. Samaje Perine has been a huge beneficiary of this development. He has been eating the snap counts of Jaleel McLaughlin and is worth a bench spot.
D’Ernst Johnson (RB - JAX)
D’Ernst Johnson has taken over as the second back behind Travis Etienne. Tank Bigsby has been moved to the third back similar to McLaughlin. It seems like teams are getting ready for the playoffs by playing their more experienced backs. Johnson has exploded for big gains as a pass catching back.
This is more of a stash and handcuff play.
Elijah Moore (WR - CLE)
Amari Cooper injured his ribs last week. His X-rays were negative, so he shouldn’t be out for long. Elijah Moore would benefit in his absence. It’s hard to see this offense doing much with Deshaun Watson out for the year. But Moore is getting a bunch of targets each game.
Cade Otton (TE - TB)
Cade Otton is Baker Mayfield’s security blanket. And Mayfield needed to comforted quite often this season. Otton has scored 6 or more fantasy points in fix of his last six games. He’s a solid option considering there’s six teams on bye this week.
