Leon's List - 2023 Week 12
Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.
I wrote this on Tuesday but messed up the metadata and it wasn’t published until Thursday. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and got everyone they wanted from the wavier wire!
Jameis Winston (QB - NO)
On Monday morning, Dennis Allen, Saints head coach, announced that Derek Carr has yet to pass the league’s concussion protocol. This leaves a window for Winston to start against the Falcons. Might be worth the $1 of FAAB if you are desperate for a QB and have a slot open.
Jake Browning (QB - CIN)
Joe Burrow is out for the season with a wrist injury. Jake Browning is the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. He is 27 years old and threw his first NFL pass last Thursday. He was first signed in 2019 as an undrafted free agent.
Browning played quarterback at the University of Washington before coming into the league. One source told me that he did not look great in his four years there.
But I like his upside. He has some rushing ability as he picked up 40 rushing yards last game. He also showed promise on a last minute garbage time drive that ended in a touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase. The Bengals also have a top ten receiving corps led by Chase.
Odell Beckham Jr. (WR - BAL)
Speaking of injuries that happened on Thursday Night Football, Mark Andrews suffered a cracked fibula injury that will sideline him for most, if not all, of this season. I’m looking at OBJ and Isiah Likely to fill in while Andrews is out.
Beckham notched double digit fantasy points in his last three games. His slant routes have been deadly. There’s a rapport building between him and Lamar Jackson. He also seems to be mostly up to speed since his ACL injury.
Isiah Likely (TE - BAL)
Isiah Likely is probably the biggest pickup of this week’s waiver wire next to Jake Browning in 2QB leagues. Likely will be the TE1 going forward. The 2nd year player showed promise last year with 373 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. The Ravens have to hope that he builds on those stats as they get ready for the postseason.
Ty Johnson (RB - BUF)
The Bills fired their offensive coordinator, Ken Dorsey, after their lost to Denver in Week 10. It seems like the new OC, Joe Brady, is adding more screens and wheel routes to the playbook. Ty Johnson is a big benefactor of this new philosophy. He scored 13.3 fantasy points last week with 3 receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown.
