Happiest Place on Earth

This past week I was on vacation in southern California. I was at the Happiest Place on Earth for about 25 hours over the course of two days. I also got to watch one of my favorite artists perform live at the Staples Center in LA.

What I’ve Read:

Disney’s $1 Billion Bet on a Magical Wristband | Wired

This long form article explains the effortless wristbands worn by millions of people at Disney World. I was reminded of this article while waiting in line to ride Space Mountain. There seemed to be a hidden robot-like efficiency to the ride; carts arrived for boarding every 30 seconds or so, timed perfectly with how long it takes to step off the ride. The line was only long because so many people wanted to experience the thrill of blasting off into space and spiraling down back to Earth. I appreciate the details and efforts taken to make everything appear seamless.

What I’ve Watched:

Taylor Swift Concert Review: Staples Center in L.A. | Variety

This short review recapped the Taylor Swift concert I attended. Although I enjoyed bopping and singing along to my favorite songs, my favorite moment of the night was when Taylor was speaking, not singing. She spoke about self esteem and not getting too wrapped up in FOMO, the fear of missing out (which is pretty ironic because her concerts probably cause FOMO in millions of teenagers). I appreciate that Taylor uses her massive platform to promote greater self awareness.
