In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.
What I Read:
You werent supposed to see that | The Reformed Broker
I’m not smart enough to tell if this piece is satire or not. The premise is that high inflation, high interest rates, and falling stock prices were due to people in power wanting to revert back to the status quo. The policies during the pandemic made life too good for everyone. Now no one wants to go back to the low wage jobs needed to keep the richest individuals on the top.
This sounds compelling. But I don’t have enough knowledge in economics to suss out the truth. Couldn’t the adverse effects we’re seeing now be due to the government printing too much money? This makes money cheap and therefore prices of goods go up, hence inflation.
Regardless of the believability of the premise, this is fantastic writing. The hook is well crafted. The background story and supporting data are fascinating. I couldn’t stop reading until the end.
What I Tried:
Readwise Reader
I have been using Readwise’s Reader app in closed beta for about a few weeks. The app is fantastic. It combines two of my favorite reading applications, Feedly and Pocket. I was able to link Pocket to Reader and sync all my articles seamlessly. But, it was not so easy with Feedly. I had to manually import all my RSS feeds.
I love that I have everything all in one place. It also has unlimited highlights that sync automatically to Readwise.
The good news is that Reader launched it’s open beta last week. It’s now available for anyone to use for free.
What I Heard:
Casey Neistats Unrelenting Pursuit of Interestingness | Rich Roll Podcast
I like watching Casey Neistat’s videos on YouTube. His vlogs are a joy. The storytelling, cinematography, and music all blend together perfectly.
Casey Neistat went on the Rich Podcast recently to talk about his move back to New York City. He also talks about getting back into making YouTube movies.
There are many good tidbits in this interview. I liked how Casey explained his work process. I understand his need to work on something by himself with no one else around. His disdain for meetings is also mutual. I also admire his love for the craft and not the numbers.
What I’m Pondering:
