Thursday Thoughts - 07/14/2022

In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

What I’ve Read:

How to Want Less

This is a fascinating article on why people always want more. The author does a great job exploring the subject with various examples including homeostasis and addiction.

I liked that the piece ended with suggestions on how to get off the hedonic treadmill and want less. Those suggestions were:

  • Help others over attaining high status
  • Compare how extrinsic desires compete with intrinsic wants
  • Pay attention to the small everyday things

What I’ve Watched:

Your First 5 Tools for Building Fame, Money, & Respect

I wished this video was made before I purchased power tools for my DIY home renovations. After watching this video, I have a bit of regret. I should have followed my gut and bought one quality cordless drill over an entire set with tools that I barely use.

However, I am glad that I watched the video now. There are some essentials that I still need to get such as the combo square, drill bits, and screw bits.

What I’m Pondering:

“…you put an ounce in a bucket each day, you get a quart.”
