Leon's List - 2024 Week 9
Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.
National Tight End Day
If you watched the NFL last Sunday, there was a high likelihood that you heard about National Tight End Day. Every announcer and studio host was talking about it. I must have heard about it over 50 times by the end of Sunday Night Football.
Digging into it, I found that National Tight End Day started as a joke between Jimmy G (remember him?) and George Kittle. The NFL took the inside joke and made it into a national holiday on the last Sunday of October.
I feel like the NFL is trying too hard to make this happen.
Here’s my list for Week 9:
Malik Willis (QB - GB)
Jordan Love left the game on Sunday with a groin injury. Initial reports say Love avoided a major injury. He might miss this week’s game against the Lions, but be back the following week.
This makes Malik Willis a short term rental. Great for anyone who needs a QB because of byes. Willis’ running ability keeps his floor high. The potential shootout with Detroit raises the ceiling.
Josh Downs (WR - IND)
Anthony Richardson has not been great since coming back from injury. His inaccuracies in the passing game looks worse with each game.
However, Richardson has a knack for throwing the deep ball. This is great for Josh Downs. He has the speed and skills to catch those bombs.
In 4 of his last 5 games, Downs has scored more than 11.5 fantasy points.
Cedric Tillman (WR - CLE)
The Jameis Winston experience was on full display last week. Towards the end of the game, he almost threw a game ending interception. But luckily the defensive back dropped it. He then threw a 38 yard touchdown pass to Cedric Tillman to win the game.
The Browns offense looks to be revitalized and all their weapons are worth looking into.
I am putting Tillman at the top of that list. He showed that his breakout game in Week 7 was not a fluke. He followed up that game with 7 catches for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Zach Ertz (TE - WAS)
Zach Ertz is becoming on of Jayden Daniels’ favorite targets.
Over the last three weeks, Ertz has averaged 10.6 fantasy points per game. He is currently the 10th highest scoring tight end in our fantasy league. This puts him above Sam LaPorta, Dalton Kincaid, and David Njoku.
