Leon's List - 2024 Week 2

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

One of the most surprising things I saw on Sunday was the performance by the Cleveland Browns. This is a team that won 11 games last year. They might be lucky to win half as much this year.

Maybe Dallas is great team. But Deshaun Watson looked awful. His footwork doesn’t seem right. He was scrambling when he didn’t need to. He also threw the ball all the over the place. The Browns might have to think about benching him to save their season.

All that lead up to say Jameis Winston is the QB2 in Cleveland and he’s available on the waiver wire.

Can we get a throwback to 2019 when both Sam Darnold and Jamies Winston were both starters and threw for the most touchdowns in their careers?

let’s get to the list for Week 2:

Michael Penix Jr (QB - ATL)

Another quarterback that looked terrible on Sunday was Kirk Cousins. He took all his snaps from the shotgun or pistol. He released the ball after a 3 to 5 step drop. The Falcons did not run play action… at all.

I think the Falcons were doing this to protect Kirk Cousins and his achilles. But this is not winning football, as evident by last Sunday’s game.

I can see Atlanta benching Cousins and seeing what they have in Penix this season.

Tank Bigsby (RB - JAX)

It looks like the Jaguars’ backfield might be more of a split back situation. Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne both had 12 carries on Sunday. With his 12 touches, Bigsby out gained Etienne on the ground 73 to 44 yards.

Bigsby is definitely worth a roster as a handcuff with immediate use.

Jalen McMillian (WR - TB)

Baker Mayfield went nuts last weekend with 4 passing touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was a 32 yard dime to Jalen McMillian.

The 3rd round rookie from Washington will be the 3rd receiver behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. But he was in 83%(!) of the offensive snaps on Sunday. This was the highest percentage for all receivers on the Bucs.

McMillian is a great stash that could be huge later this season given Evans and Godwin’s injury histories.

Isiah Likely (TE - BAL)

I am usually worried with chasing players that just put up huge numbers, especially in Week 1. But I think Isiah Likely will remain a factor in the Raven’s offense throughout the season. There’s just no one else for Lamar Jackson to throw to outside of Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews.

It looks like the Ravens will run a bunch of 2 tight end sets. In their last game, Andrews was in 75% of the snaps, while Likely in 66%. They can both eat!
