Leon's List - 2022 Week 5

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

Players from Last Week

Both Trevor Lawrence and Marcus Mariota had awful days. Lawrence turned the ball over 5 times on his way to 7.3 fantasy points. Mariota put up 5.9 points on 7 completed passes, 1 interception, and 5 rushing yards.

C-Patt left the game midway through the 3rd quarter with a knee injury. This opened the doors for Tyler Allgeier. He had a decent day with 11.9 fantasy points on 114 total scrimmage yards. More on key injuries to running backs later in this newsletter.

Both Tight Ends mentioned last week had good but not great weeks. David Njoku ends up with 7.2 points on 5 catches and 84 receiving yards but lost a fumble. Tyler Conklin was huge on the last drive of the game for the Jets. He ended up with 6.7 points on 3 catches and 52 yards.

Romeo Doubs was one catch away from an amazing outing. He dropped a 40 yard touchdown bomb late in the 4th quarter. However, he still ends up with 11.2 fantasy points on 5 catches, 47 receiving yards, and a touchdown. He also seems to be gaining Aaron Rodger’s trust and moving into the WR1 role.

FAAB Watch

Big Spenders

Tyler was the biggest spender last week with $56 on Trevor Lawrence and Romeo Doubs.

Bidding Wars

The player with the highest bids last week was Romeo Doubs. He had bids of $29 and $24.

The Green Bay defense was also popular with 3 bids of $2, $1, and $1.

This Week’s List

Caleb Huntley (RB - ATL)

As mentioned above, C-Patt is on IR and will be missing at least 4 game. This opens up the backfield to Caleb Huntley and Tyler Allgeier. They split the touches equally last week with ten a piece. Although Huntley gained less yards, he was able to punch it into the end zone for a score.

Atlanta is a run first offense even with all their receiving weapons. So I believe both Huntley and Allgeier will get plenty of opportunities in the next few weeks.

Mike Boone (RB - DEN)

Javonte Williams suffered a devastating injury on Sunday. Reportedly, he has torn both his ACL and LCL. Unfortunately, this injury will end his season.

Mike Boone split touches with Melvin Gordon after Williams exited the game. Boone dropped a pass at the end of the game but it wouldn’t have changed the outcome. The Broncos doesn’t seem to fully trust Gordon, especially after his fumble last game. So I can see Boone getting a chance to shine.

Corey Davis (WR - NYJ)

Corey Davis led the team with 7 targets, 5 catches, 74 receiving yards and a touchdown in Zach Wilson’s return. He seemed to have a solid relationship with Wilson from last year.

The fun thing about the Jets is that they are bad and will be behind in a lot of games. This means they will throw the ball a ton to catch up. Zach Wilson will be slinging the ball and hopefully hitting his receivers instead of the defensive backs.

Will Dissly (TE - SEA)

Will Dissly caught a touchdown in 3 out of 4 weeks. He also has a 100% catch rate on 12 targets.

His quarterback has also been on fire. Geno Smith is currently the highest ranked quarterback according to EPA per play and CPOE (completion percentage over expected).

Minnesota Defense

The Vikings get the Bears next week. This looks to be a juicy matchup for the Minnesota defense. Justin Fields is tied for the second most sacked QB in the league behind Carson Wentz.

The NYG defense, who struggled against Copper Rush, was able to rack up 16 fantasy points against the Bears. I think the Vikings defense can match that.

Jacksonville Defense

The Jags defense got lit up for 29 points last week by a very good Eagles team. They still managed 9 fantasy points due to a pick six. This defense looks legit through four weeks. They are currently ranked 4th according to EPA per play.

They get Davis Mils and the Texans next week, who are the 4th worst offense according to EPA per play. This seems like a no brainer.

Best Thing I Saw This Week

  • I actually woke up early enough to catch the last six minutes of the London Game. I’m glad I did as I got rewarded with this Double Doink as time expired.

  • Bailey Zappe and the Patriots almost beat the Packers in Lambeau Field. As impressive as that would have been, I’m more impressed with how much Zappe looks like Mac Jones.

  • I gotta give props to number 72 from Denver for giving 110% on trying to prevent this fumble six.
