What I Read:
The Three Sides of Risk | Collaborative Fund
Morgan Housel shares a deeply personal story from his teenage years. A skiing accident on the backside of a resort killed two of his friends.
This event shaped Morgan Housel’s view on life. His appetite for risk plummeted. He would err on the side of safety in many aspects of life. This philosophy comes through in his book, The Psychology of Money.
I appreciated this essay. Morgan Housel captivated my attention with his personal story. Then paid it off with a great lesson about the tail-end consequences of risk.
Books To Base Your Life On | Ryan Holiday
I haven’t found anything motivating to read lately. So I have been looking for book recommendations. In the video below, Ryan Holidays’s wife mentions his reading list. I immediately look it up after finishing the video. The list has great suggestions from various genres and authors. I picked up Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed after going through the recommendations.
What I Watched:
I Opened A Bookstore In A Pandemic | Daily Stoic
Ryan Holiday opened an independent bookstore during the COVID pandemic. As he and his wife explains in this video, it’s a huge risk. Physical bookstores have disappeared due to Amazon. To make the task even harder, Ryan Holiday attempts to open the store when there is hardly any foot traffic due to COVID.
It’s great to see Stoic philosophy in action. Ryan Holiday goes through many hardships opening the bookstore. But he does it with perception, action, and will. He performs what he preaches in his books.
What I’m Pondering:
Think progress, not perfection. Under this kind of force, obstacles break apart. They have no choice.
