Thursday Thoughts - 04/06/2023

Here are my Thursday Thoughts, a short list of the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

What I Heard:

Myth-Busting Wellness Hacks: Cold Plunges, Coffee, Alcohol, and Fitness Trackers

Derek Thompson has a conversation with Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness about the latest wellness hacks. This includes cold plunges, caffeine, alcohol, and fitness trackers. They also discuss five simple things that lead to a long life.

I have been working on getting the opposing view of an argument instead of just making up my mind with just one viewpoint. This podcast helped me achieve that. It was a counter argument against some of the health advice given by Andrew Huberman and Peter Attia.

Thompson and his guests make a great point on social fitness over physical fitness. My views on alcohol and caffeine softened a bit after listening to this episode. But my overall view on health are still more in line with Huberman and Attia than not.

What I Read:

Why You Should Hit Delete More Often

This article states that great work happens only with editing. With material often going through multiple iterations. The post uses supporting evidence from various fields such as copywriting, film, and architecture.

This piece is a great reminder of what it takes to make great work. I feel encouraged to write shitty first drafts, knowing the delete button is right there.

What I Tried:

Outlook Google Calendar Sync

While putting together my weekly plan, I noticed that my work calendar was not syncing into my personal calendar. I had to look in two places to ensure that I didn’t miss an appointment or meeting. The simple solution to this problem was installing Outlook Google Calendar Sync. It was easy to hook up both my accounts and get everything in one place.
