Thursday Thoughts - 01/26/2023
In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.
What I Tried:
RAW Power
I am starting a new project that requires taking and editing photos. I previously used Lightroom to import and touch up my photos. I enjoyed how easy it was to do these small tasks. However, I cancelled my Adobe subscription last year. I couldn’t justify the monthly costs after I stopped making YouTube videos with Premiere Pro.
Fortunately, I stumbled upon RAW Power. It has everything that I needed from Lightroom. And I can buy it outright for $40 instead of subscribing to a monthly payment plan.
What I Admired:
Craig Mods Website
Craig Mod is a writer and photographer living in Japan. He is known for his pop up newsletters, where he chronicles his walking adventures.
I visited his website after reading his latest pop up newsletter about Tokyo. I was amazed that the whole site was made with Hugo. It’s night and day from my website. But it’s built with the same underlying system. I was particularly amazed the layout of his essays with sections for photos and sidebars.
What I Wrote:
PYR 2022
The past year review (PYR) essay completes the series of posts reflecting on last year. During a PYR, I look at the most and least joyful events. Then plan the next year with those items in mind. It’s an alternative to new years resolutions.
What I’m Pondering:
“Perfection is not when there is no more to add, but no more to take away.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of The Little Prince (h/t to Tribe of Mentors)
