Leon's List - 2024 Week 7

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

Stacks on Stacks on Stacks

I’m not sure when it started but I first noticed it during the rise of DraftKing, FanDuel, and daily fantasy sports.

People were stacking wide receivers with quarterbacks to double dip on fantasy points. It makes sense. Someone needs to throw the ball to the receiver. So if you like Julio Jones, you have to like Matt Ryan too.

Stacks infiltrated our league this year. I count six teams with a quarterback paired with their best receiver or tight end. You could argue the number might be seven with CJ Stroud and Tank Dell since Nico Collins is currently on IR.

This doesn’t factor in that Shawn has a double stack with Purdy/Deebo and Burrow/Chase. Or that Simon has a triple stack with Cousins/London/Mooney. Or that I also have had (rip MHJ) a triple stack with Murray/Harrison Jr./McBride.

It’s definitely made the games more interesting to watch. I tuned in to every Cardinals game this year. I feel like a fan by extension.

Stacks aren’t all upside. It’s boom or bust. If the offense is terrible, you punted on multiple positions.

Maybe the goal is to sneak into the playoffs and hope your stack goes off in Weeks 15 to 17. Kyler will surely get bored of Call of Duty by then, right?

Here’s my list for Week 7:

Issac Guerendo (RB - SF)

Jordan Mason is day-to-day with an AC sprain. He practiced on Monday with a non-contact jersey on.

If the Niners’ 3rd string RB can’t go, Issac Guerendo will most likely get the start. Guerendo had 99 yards on 10 carries on Thursday. Most of the yards came on a 76 yard rush towards the end of the game.

I’m not worried about Guerendo’s production with Kyle Shannahan and SF’s offensive line.

Kimani Vidal (RB - LAC)

Gus Edward was put on IR last week. This makes JK Dobbins the de facto RB1 for the Chargers.

Vidal makes a great handcuff given Dobbins’ injury history. In his limited role last Sunday, Vidal caught a pass off a wheel route and scored. So he’s shown he can get the ball in the end zone.

Demario Douglas (WR - NE)

The Drake Maye era has started in New England. And it looks to be better than whatever Jacob Brisett and Mac Jones were doing.

The Patriots offense looks to be reinvigorated with Maye, similar to how the Panthers looked after Bryce Young was benched. The receiver that benefits the most from this change is Demario Douglas. He led the team in targets, catches, and yards last week.

The Patriots play Jacksonville next. The same team that just gave up four touchdowns to Caleb Williams.

Bub Means (WR - NO)

Bub Means might be one of my favorite NFL player names.

Means got in last week’s game after Chris Olave suffered a concussion. He finished with 13 fantasy points and tied Alvin Kamara for the most targets and receptions. Means seems to have a connection with Spencer Rattler.

It’s hard to imagine Olave clearing concussion protocol before the Saints play on Thursday. That means it’s time for Bub Means to eat!
