Leon's List - 2024 Week 10

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

Trade Deadline

The NFL trade deadline is today.

There have been a handful of trades before the deadline. We had some big name receivers pairing up with superstar quarterbacks.

  • DeAndre Hopkins with Patrick Mahomes
  • Diontae Johnson with Lamar Jackson
  • Amari Cooper with Josh Allen
  • Davante Adams with Aaron Rodgers(?)

All these receivers had average to poor quarterbacks at the beginning of the season. As such, they were picked lower in fantasy drafts.

I had previously discounted these receivers because I didn’t trust the guy throwing the ball. But maybe it doesn’t matter.

I’ll keep this in mind for next year’s draft. Pick good receivers on bad teams with the hopes that they get traded. You can get good value for a 5th or 6th round pick.

Here’s my list for Week 10:

Bryce Young (QB - CAR)

Bryce Young has looked frisky since getting the starting job back.

It hasn’t shown up as fantasy points yet (27 fantasy points over 2 games). But he’s looked better from an eye test standpoint. He led the Panthers down the field for a game winning drive against the Saints last week.

I like stashing Young now and seeing if he can build on this momentum.

There are also rumors of teams asking the Panthers if Young is available. So there’s the possibility that he gets traded to a better situation.

Cam Akers (RB - MIN)

The Vikings traded for Cam Akers earlier this season. It seems like Akers has adjusted to the playbook and is making his mark. He surpassed Ty Chandler as the RB2.

Akers makes a nice handcuff for Aaron Jones, who is turning 30 in December.

Mike Gesicki (TE - CIN)

We might be point chasing a bit with Mike Gesicki.

But he has been good in the games that Tee Higgins has been out. In those 4 games, he has averaged 12.5 fantasy points. I’m not sure when Higgins will be back but he seems to be unavailable to me most of this season.
