Leon’s List is back for the 2023-24 NFL season!
I made a few changes to the newsletter during the offseason. These modifications all focus on doing less. I’m trying to keep things as simple as possible with a baby on the way.
Here’s a quick rundown of the changes:

I switched email services from from SendFox to follow.it. Everything should be nearly same on your end. The new service cuts down my overhead by automating the email sending process.

I’m forcing myself to keep the weekly lists between 3 to 7 players and under 500 words. I’m also going to compile my list before reading anything on the Internet. These constraints should make the list more unique and a quicker read.
Now that the admin stuff is out of the way, let’s dive into the list for Week 1. It’s hard to identify standout players since the draft was less than 48 hours ago. There hasn’t been any major injury news since then. But I tried to find some gems that could have an immediate impact.
Deon Jackson (RB - IND)
Jonathan Taylor is out at least 4 weeks. There’s also reports that Zach Moss is unable to go for the season opener. So this makes Deon Jackson the expected Week 1 starter for the Colts. This is a great pickup for someone who messed up their draft and do not have two starting running backs to start the season (ahem, me).
Marvin Mims Jr. (WR - DEN)
Denver’s receiving corps has taken a few hits before the season even started. Both Tim Patrick and Jalen Virgil have been placed on IR. It looks like Jerry Juedy is sitting out Week 1 with a hamstring injury. This paves the way for rookie Marvin Mims Jr., from Oklahoma, to make his mark in the revamped Broncos’ offense.
Atlanta Defense
This bet is more on who Atlanta is playing rather than the talent of their defense. I’m betting on a rookie quarter, Bryce Young, throwing a couple of picks on the road in his first official NFL game. The Panthers’ offense did not look great in the preseason. Their starting receivers are Adam Theilen, DJ Clark, and Jonathan Mingo. Yikes.
